Who Are The Victims?
Although the Zodiac sent letters to the police claiming numerous murders and is believed to have been linked to many others, the killer has only been conclusively linked to these seven victims.
Paul was a 29 year old cab driver in San Francisco, California. On the night of October 11, 1969, he was hailed at the corner of Mason and Geary streets when he picked up Zodiac. Their destination, from there, was Washington and Maple Streets, but for unknown reasons, ended up a block away on Washington and Cherry Streets. Stine was shot point blank in the back of the head with a 9mm semi automatic pistol, while still in his cab. This was the same weapon that had been used in the Ferrin-Mageau attack from a few months earlier. His wallet and keys were taken and large portion of his shirt had been carefully torn off. There were three witnesses from a house southeast of that intersection. They reported seeing the suspect wiping the car down with a cloth after killing Stine and described the man as a 35-40 year old male, about 5'8''-5'9'', with reddish brown hair worn in a crew-cut and also wore glasses. According to police records there were bloody fingerprints and pair of Men's size 7, black leather gloves found inside the vehicle. Police had originally began to think this murder was a routine cab robbery gone bad. However on October 13, the San Francisco Chronicle received a letter from the Zodiac taking credit for the killing along with a portion of Stine's bloody shirt. Zodiac even claimed that he had spoken with police, giving them information on the suspect, only to lead them astray.
